Daniel Currie

Dan has been working in and for charitable organisations for 33 years.

As a consultant he has delivered:

  • Governance reviews for large national organisations (e.g. Methodist Homes) national federations (e.g. Emmaus) and smaller local charities (e.g. Autism Unlimited). Through this work he has helped boards build capacity in numerous ways, including renewing their own membership, designing effective committee structures, rebuilding relationships with executive teams, improving risk management, and organising better board meetings.
  • Board facilitation, supporting strategic and organisational reviews, helping boards to understand their changing environments and build consensus for significant change. Recent clients in this area have included THT (national HIV / AIDS charity) Hestia and SHP (London homelessness charities).
  • Support to chairs, including performance reviews (e.g. Evolve) and mentoring during periods of significant organisational development (e.g. Philosophy Foundation and Boost Up).
  • Mergers between more than forty charities. Working with boards and chief executives he has enabled them to select the correct partners, conduct effective negotiations, understand risk through due diligence, and manage the mechanics of merger. Clients have ranged from large national organisations such as United Response, to smaller local charities including Mind branches and numerous YMCAs.

Dan has significant personal experience of delivering trustee roles. He has been Vice Chair of London Potters, a non-executive director of PACT Futures, a governor of Southbank University and a trustee of Homeless Link. Prior to becoming a consultant, he was chief executive of St Giles Trust, leading its transformation from local homelessness charity to award-winning national criminal justice charity. He holds an MBA from Bayes Business School (City, University of London) and a BA in History from Cambridge.
