Advising on areas from corporate strategy to corporate governance

Our multi-disciplinary team have provided a range of support, including establishing for-profit registered housing providers, advising on bidding strategies, conducting governance reviews, corporate strategies, business plan reviews, supporting joint ventures, sourcing senior interim managers, and conducting executive and non-executive recruitment.

This work has included advising institutional investors on market norms and expectations in the social housing sector; procuring delivery partners for for-profit registered providers of housing; regulatory advice and guidance. We have worked for around one-third of the for-profit registered providers.

Supporting housing providers across the UK and Ireland

Working with housing providers has been central to CT from day one; in our 24 years of operation, we have worked with many social landlords across the UK and the Republic of Ireland, with housing associations (both charitable and for-profit), local authorities, arm’s length management organisations (ALMOs) and council-owned housing delivery companies, housing co-ops and tenant management organisations.

These have included all the largest 50 housing associations in the UK, most of the largest approved housing bodies in the Republic of Ireland, and over nearly 100 councils and council-owned companies across the UK and Ireland.

Against a backdrop of chronic housing shortages and continued austerity, recent years have seen providers face new challenges including a worldwide pandemic, a cost-of-living crisis, rising concerns about the quality and safety of homes and the need to decarbonise homes to meet net zero targets. All of these raise the expectations for performance and governance.

We have worked with a very wide range of regulators and arm’s length bodies (ALBs) – whether non-departmental public bodies or non-ministerial departments. Their duties may range across transport, utilities, energy or the arts and culture.

We have the credibility, authority and intellectual agility to engage with the most senior people, whether NEDs, Executive staff or sponsor departments, with a view to surfacing strengths and areas for continuous improvement arising from external Board evaluations and reviews.

We are well versed in the range of guidance that frames the governance expectations for these clients, whether Framework Agreements, Managing Public Money guidance or Cabinet guidance in respect of Board reviews.

Campbell Tickell has a wealth of experience working with health and care systems to ensure that services are high-quality, collaborative and efficient. Despite the significant financial and demand challenges facing these sectors, innovative practice is widespread, and we work to support its scale and spread.

We work with integrated care bodies, public health, care and support providers and local authority social care commissioners on a range of health and care issues. Most of our work involves data analysis, stakeholder consultation and gathering the views of people with lived experience, as well as research into best practice to inform clients about innovations in their sector.

Recent projects

1. Reviewing discharge from hospital schemes and identifying opportunities to improve the pathway, commissioned by an Integrated Care Boad.
2. Working with an Integrated Care Board to map existing health outreach services for homeless people and making recommendations for the future specification of these services.
3. Development of a Strategic Housing Needs Assessment for an Integrated Care Board, assessing the number and types of supported housing and independent living housing units needed for people with learning disabilities, autism and severe mental ill health, with five and 10 year forward projections, to assist in making the case for new housing developments.

Campbell Tickell has built a strong reputation in the sports sector, offering a fresh perspective and insight into best practice governance drawn from extensive experience working in a range of sectors.  

We are well versed in the Code for Sports Governance and have worked with Sport England, national governing bodies, regional sports providers, multi-sport partnerships, and sports charities, supporting those organisations to move beyond compliance into governance that is effective, meaningful and adds value.

We have shared our expertise through podcasts, webinars and sector events, including with the Women’s Sport Collective, because we believe sport has a vital role to play in the wellbeing, resilience and cohesion of society.  

In 2025, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) appointed Campbell Tickell as one of its providers of board evaluation services for county cricket organisations. Since then, we have been commissioned to undertake six reviews of county cricket clubs.  

Campbell Tickell supports Fair Game (FG) in its efforts to produce a more sustainable model for football, having been involved with FG since 2021. We contributed to FG’s submission to the Tracey Crouch Review, as well as contributing to the submission from the Football Supporters Association and making a submission in our own right. We co-wrote Fair Game’s Code of Governance for Football Clubs, and the FG discussion document on effective football regulation. We exhibited at FG’s 2026 annual conference, for which we put together a short collection of some of our sports related insights, covering topic such as football governance, board diversity, and women in sport, which is available to read here.
