Independent whistleblowing investigation provides assurance and strengthens governance

Case Study

Independent whistleblowing investigation provides assurance and strengthens governance

The Challenge

A client received a series of anonymous whistleblowing disclosures alleging serious concerns relating to leadership conduct, organisational culture, governance, operating performance, regulatory compliance, financial control and data reporting. Given the breadth and sensitivity of the allegations, the organisation commissioned us to ensure the concerns would be reviewed thoroughly, objectively and transparently.

Our Approach

Campbell Tickell was commissioned to undertake an independent investigation in line with the organisation’s whistleblowing policy. Our team:

01

Reviewed a substantial volume of governance, operational, financial and HR documentation.

02

Examined performance, operating, compliance and reporting data.

03

Analysed staff turnover data and exit interview information.

04

Conducted witness interviews where appropriate.

05

Assessed the credibility of allegations against available evidence.

06

Provided recommendations to support ongoing governance and assurance.

The Outcome

Following extensive enquiries, we found no evidence to substantiate the allegations raised. Taking an evidence-based approach enabled us to rule out many of the disclosures quickly because the facts did not corroborate the allegations. We concluded that no further action was warranted.
Importantly, the review provided independent assurance to the organisation's leadership and governing body, and ultimately the regulator, that existing governance, reporting and oversight arrangements were operating appropriately. While the allegations were not upheld, the investigation identified several opportunities for continuous improvement, including enhancements to reporting, communication with staff, and ongoing governance assurance activities.

Impact

The organisation was able to:

01

Demonstrate a robust and transparent response to whistleblowing concerns.

02

Obtain independent assurance regarding governance and operational controls.

03

Reinforce confidence among board members and stakeholders.

04

Identify practical improvements to strengthen future reporting and assurance processes.

05

Further embed a culture of accountability, transparency and continuous improvement.

Campbell Tickell specialises in conducting independent investigations into whistleblowing, governance, conduct, culture, and compliance concerns, providing organisations with clear findings, evidence-based recommendations and trusted assurance.
