Campbell Tickell’s work in the sports sector
Campbell Tickell has established a strong reputation in the sports sector, bringing a fresh perspective on governance and organisational effectiveness informed by our extensive experience across housing, charities, local government, health and other sectors.
Our work includes governance reviews, board development, finance and business planning, and executive and non-executive recruitment. We have a deep understanding of the Code for Sports Governance and have worked with Sport England, national governing bodies, regional sports organisations, multi-sport partnerships and sports charities. Our focus is on helping organisations move beyond compliance to achieve governance that is effective, purposeful and adds real value.
Our experience across sport
The sports in which we have worked include:
- Angling;
- Cricket
- Cycling;
- Football;
- Goalball;
- Mountaineering;
- Netball;
- Snowsports;
- Taekwondo;
- Tennis;
- Multi-sports (i.e. cross-sector).
Our approach is to work with our clients to help Boards to reach their full potential. We offer a fresh pair of eyes to challenge established practice and assumptions, rooted in our depth of experience in governance practice across the non-profit sector.
We ensure Boards are:
- engaged, strategically focused and modelling high standards of integrity
- making decisions which draw in broader perspectives, ensuring legitimacy and credibility with members, participants, funders and the wider public
- successfully meeting the organisation’s aims, for the benefit of everyone engaged in the sport and society as a whole.
We also share our expertise through podcasts, webinars and sector events, including collaborations with the Women’s Sport Collective. We believe sport plays a vital role in promoting wellbeing, resilience and community cohesion.
In 2025, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) appointed Campbell Tickell as one of its providers of board evaluation services for county cricket organisations. Since then, we have been commissioned to undertake six reviews of county cricket clubs.
Campbell Tickell, Fair Game and football regulation
Campbell Tickell supports Fair Game (FG) in its efforts to produce a more sustainable model for football, having been involved with FG since 2021. We contributed to FG’s submission to the Tracey Crouch Review, as well as contributing to the submission from the Football Supporters Association and making a submission in our own right. We co-wrote Fair Game’s Code of Governance for Football Clubs, and the FG discussion document on effective football regulation. We exhibited at FG’s 2026 annual conference, for which we put together a short collection of some of our sports related insights, covering topic such as football governance, board diversity, and women in sport, which is available to read here.
