With over 30 years management experience in the social and affordable housing sector, David has substantial operational and strategic expertise.
Currently, as a consultant, he works with Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs) and property developers in Ireland, advising on new business development and governance.
David has worked considerably with registered housing providers, composing development strategies and business plans. This has included working with and training Boards of Management in build development procedures. Prior to setting up his own development consultancy, David worked in a senior project management role with two London based housing organisations, managing teams of staff initiating and securing new land opportunities across a range of social, affordable and commercial tenures. During his career, he led on the acquisition of new sites and drafting of regeneration bids and has managed stock rationalisation programmes for large Registered Providers (RPs). Additionally, David has carried out detailed financial appraisals for both mixed tenure residential and commercial development.
From 2011-2017, David was a Board member of one of Ireland’s largest AHBs, the last year of which was as Chair of it’s Development subcommittee.
- First class experience of risk assessment and good governance in practice. With the latter, he was the first person from the Housing Association sector in the UK to be seconded to the Housing Corporation (the then regulatory authority), managing a team of staff who oversaw the development activity of Housing Associations.
- Initiating and implementing an asset management strategy for a large Housing Association.
- Regularly assisting small to medium sized housing groups with option appraisals on how to get best value out of their existing stock portfolios.
- Initiating and managing a social economy enterprise in North Inner City Dublin.
