Feb 2021 – CT Masterclass series: Exploring the new NHF Code of Governance
- February 3 – 24, 2021
- 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
- Zoom, Online
£165 – £175
The NHF 2020 Code of Governance is designed to help housing associations achieve the highest standards of governance and board excellence. It is substantially different to previous versions and is intended to set stretching expectation. All housing associations adopting the Code will need to plan how they will achieve compliance in the next year.
We know it inside out, having written it on behalf of the NHF, and are really pleased to be able to offer four x 2 hour sessions, exploring different aspects of the Code in more depth.
Read more about each session below:
|This session will focus on Principle 3 of the new NHF Code of Governance: Board effectiveness. We’ll explore with you the new and more stretching requirements of this part of the Code – including expectations about maximum tenure, about diverse Board membership and about people with direct lived experience of communities served being meaningfully engaged in governance structures.
And we’ll hear from our speakers about how the Board can most effectively deliver its essential functions.
Aman Dalvi, Chair Aspire Housing
Tabitha Kassem, Executive Director of Governance.
Risk & Assurance
|The 2020 NHF Code of Governance contains strengthened requirements about the way in which Boards should actively manage the risks faced by organisations.
We’ll explore these requirements at this masterclass, encouraging you to reflect on how they might translate into practice, and what might need to change culturally and in terms of process to support compliance.
Taking Code compliance as a baseline, our speakers will talk about how Boards can gain confidence that sound understanding and management of risk is supporting the organisation to achieve its vision.
Zoe Ollerearnshaw, Group Company Secretary, Hyde
Andrew Bush, Governance and Compliance Director, Platform Housing Group
People & Culture
|There is a new emphasis in the 2020 NHF Code of Governance on people and culture, including embedding equality, diversity and inclusion in governance. At this masterclass our speakers will explore – and encourage you to explore – what the requirements of the new Code might mean in practice, including what sorts of conversation Boards might need to have on these topics, what insight they will need to support good governance, and how they can ensure that change is meaningful and has impact.||CT:
Victor da Cunha, CEO, Curo Group & Chair, Local Space
Shruti Bhargava, Independent Consultant
|Alongside the NHF’s Together with Tenants Charter, the new NHF Code of Governance emphasises the importance of accountability to residents and of placing the needs and safety of current and future residents at the heart of strategic decision-making. Our speakers will discuss what this means in practice for organisations, and how the requirements fit with what’s in the recent social housing white paper. You’ll be encouraged to explore how Boards can best ensure they have genuine insight into the views and needs or residents, and how they can demonstrate meaningful accountability.||CT:
