Chair – Brighter Futures for Children
Brighter Futures for Children (BFfC) is a not-for-profit company established in 2018 to deliver children’s services in Reading. We are wholly-owned by, but independent of, Reading Borough Council.
About the role
Our vision is to unlock all the resources we can in Reading to help every child have a happy, healthy and successful life. We believe that we are most likely to succeed if our staff, children and the young people we work with are involved and engaged in everything we do.
We have made significant headway in a short space of time. With a £6m support from government and council for transforming the service, the first year saw us move children’s services from an ‘Inadequate’ Ofsted rating to ‘Requires Improvement’. There is real determination at all levels to make Brighter Futures for Children a success and to improve the lives of children and young people in Reading.
This role presents a unique opportunity to join our Board and make a real difference by contributing to the company’s strategic direction. We are looking for applicants who have prior chairing or non-executive director experience in the ‘not for profit’ or quasi-government sectors and offer experience and/or knowledge of children’s services.
This is a challenging role but rewarding and offers a great opportunity to strategically contribute towards making Reading one of the best places in the UK to grow up in and to impact positively on the lives of our children and young people.
If you have a strong understanding of effective governance, are a strategic thinker and a competent and collegiate decision-maker and leader then we would like to hear from you.
