About Sue Harvey
Sue Harvey is an economist and strategic management consultant with more than 10 years' experience in housing, social care, regeneration and health. Sue is highly competent in business planning, financial modelling, risk management and governance and is able to quickly ascertain the evidence base for options to guide decision-making at senior levels.
She has considerable experience in working with Boards and executive teams, and has facilitated strategic planning exercises in a variety of organisations where her relaxed and confident presentational style is inviting of interaction. She brings a brightness of mind and manner that clients find engaging, backed up by a strong analytical approach. Sue has been a committee member of a large housing association, a director of a supported housing charity and a non-executive director of a NHS foundation trust.
She was for eight years a Board member of a stock transfer housing association from its inception through to the delivery of the promises to tenants ahead of time and on budget. These experiences inform how she communicates complex information in both visual and written formats to support strategic choices.
Her recent assignments include:
- Supporting a wide variety of Boards in partnership search, selection and negotiation, including those prompted by strategic imperatives as well as those driven by financial distress;
- Strategic reviews and feasibility studies for a variety of organisations across a range of sectors;
- Board member training in finance and business planning for associations, ALMOs and voluntary sector organisations;
- Review of sector-wide best practice in group structures;
- Assessing financial capacity to support investment decisions;
- Governance reviews including board appraisal and skills mix analysis;
- Interim roles including Finance Director and Head of Asset Management.
Other assignments Sue has undertaken are:
- Interviews with leading RSL chief execs to review of best practice in group structures for a large housing association;
- Conducting process of selecting a partner for a newly-developing association;
- Facilitating the executive team of a housing association in drawing up its 5-year corporate plan for the next phase of its development;
- Running workshops for both the board and staff team of a third sector organisation as they prepared their 3-year business plan;
- Assessing the potential for continued independence of a small association in supervision;
- Information systems audit for a supported housing agency;
- Chairing a successful 5-year regeneration programme in an inner-London neighbourhood.
