Hestia – Chair

At Hestia we support adults and children in times of crisis and enable them to build a life beyond crisis.

Hestia is a vibrant charity with almost 50 years’ experience of supporting and enabling adults and children in crisis to rebuild their lives. The demand for our support has never been higher and we deliver services across London and the surrounding regions, as well as campaign and advocate nationally on the issues that affect the people we work with.

Location(s): London
Job Type: Non-Executive
Closing date: May 29 2018
Salary: Unremunerated

About the role

We have steadily grown to become the largest provider of domestic abuse refuges and of support to victims of modern slavery in London.  Last year across all of our service types (including mental health, ex-offenders and day centres), we helped over 9,000 people.

We help people find a permanent home, manage their finances, take care of their health, and access work, training or education, as well as providing emotional and practical support to help people succeed in their daily lives. All of our services are built around the needs of our service users, ensuring that the individuals and families that we work with have control over the support they receive.

We also run UK SAYS NO MORE, a national campaign to raise awareness of domestic abuse and sexual violence across the UK.

With effective governance vital to the current and future success of Hestia, you will provide active and inclusive leadership for the Board and strategic support and challenge to the Chief Executive and his team.

Your professional experience is likely to be drawn from mental health, social care or a related sector, but what matters most is that you are a confident and inspirational leader with the credibility that allows you to network and influence at a senior level in and outside the sector. You will have a proven track record as an effective non-executive with strong strategic, financial, business and commercial skills, gained within an equally complex organisation with a strong service user focus.
